Ski and Board Freeride camps
Bansko - Pirin Mountains
Bansko Freeride week:
Everything you need for an epic off-piste week: great accommodation, top-level guiding and tuition, and expert locals to show you the hidden gems of the stunning Pirin Mountains, and help you score some unforgettable lines. Off the hill, unwind in hot springs, hit amazing restaurants and lively bars, and soak up the full adventure. A proper mountain week, done right.
Based in Bansko, we blend modern resort infrastructure with one of the Balkans’ best-kept secrets: the wild backcountry of the Pirin Mountains. Step away from the pistes and you’ll find untouched lines, zero crowds, and the raw beauty of a UNESCO-protected national park. We use the lifts and resort terrain to dial in technique and enjoy lift-accessed freeride, then spend a few days heading up and over — leaving the resort behind and dropping into the quiet, unspoilt heart of the mountains.
We run these trips in March and April — why?
By late season, the snowpack has had time to build, giving us better stability and access to higher terrain. Longer days and zero lift queues mean more time riding and easier access to the best snow. March and April regularly deliver everything from deep powder days to fast, playful spring slush.
All photos on this page were taken between mid-March and mid-May over the past five seasons — proof that this is prime time in the high Pirin.

Itinerary
-
One of our team will greet you at Sofia Airport before a scenic two-hour transfer to our base. Once you arrive, the fun begins, tuck into a welcome meal with drinks, meet the rest of the group, and get your kit set up. Fancy slowing things down after the journey? You’ll also have the option to unwind in the sauna or hot tub and ease into the adventure ahead.
-
We kick things off with a warm-up day on and around the slopes of Bansko. Your guide will show you the lay of the land, cruising the pistes, ducking into the best hidden spots, and hunting out all the fun bits around the mountain, from secret beer stops to playful gullies. As we start riding as a group, we’ll chat through potential backcountry objectives, dial in key techniques, and identify individual areas to focus on as the week unfolds.
-
Days 2 & 3: These days are all about dialing in your technique and using Bansko’s lift system to elevate your riding. Each morning kicks off with a focused two-hour coaching session, packed with targeted drills designed to boost your off-piste skills, with the option of video recording and personalised feedback.
In the afternoons, the mountain is yours—ride freely, explore, and put your new skills into practice, with plenty of space to experiment, progress, and simply enjoy the terrain.
-
This is where everything comes together. With a fully qualified mountain guide leading the way, we head out to explore backcountry terrain and put all the skills we’ve been building into real-world action.
Using Bansko’s lift system, we ascend to 2,550 m before a bootpack to Todorka Peak (2,746 m), towering above the resort and offering almost limitless descent options. The steep north face, home to the Freeride World Qualifier, delivers fast, technical riding with endless features to play with.
Looking for something bigger? We can drop the west face toward Vihren Hut for a steep, sustained 1,000 m descent, or cruise toward the Demianitsa Valley, ticking off additional peaks along the way. Wide-open powder bowls, untouched lines, and true wilderness await.
Words barely do justice to the feeling of riding away from civilisation deep into the Pirin Mountains.
For those with keen legs and a taste for more, we can repeat the climb (around 30–50 minutes) and drop in for another lap, choosing a completely different line and making the most of the vast terrain on offer.
Natural thermal mineral springs often follow, to recharge the legs and unwind.
-
We’ve got a few great options today, but a firm favourite is heading across to a neighbouring valley. Using a relic Communist-era chairlift, rough around the edges, but offering incredible access. The lift whisks us up to 2,300 m, delivering us to a beautiful mountain hut and frozen lake, far removed from the buzz of the ski resort.
From here, we’ll either bootpack, snowshoe or skin (conditions dependent) toward Bezbog Peak (2,645 m) or push higher to Polejan Peak (2,851 m). The views across the Pirin Range are vast and wild, and the sense of remoteness is hard to beat. With a bit of luck, we’ll spot chamois moving across the slopes—while hoping the bears stay tucked up in hibernation.
There’s a huge variety of lines and features to choose from, all guided by a fully qualified mountain guide who knows where the best riding in the Pirin hides. We can descend all the way down to 1,400 m, then either hop back on the chairlift to access playful terrain near the ski trails or head back up for another lap.
-
Our final day is a built-in weather or free-ride day, giving you total freedom to shape the end of the trip. Repeat your favourite lines on or off piste, or keep things mellow and cruise the resort. While the whole week is flexible, this day especially is yours to design.
Keen for more adventure? It’s always possible to book a mountain guide to revisit standout descents or push further into the backcountry. Alternatively, we can run an avalanche awareness workshop, or spend the day dialling in splitboarding and skinning techniques.
Or… take a few morning laps, swap snow for wheels with an afternoon mountain bike ride, or simply soak up the sun with a cold local beer. However you choose to finish, it’s the perfect way to round off an unforgettable week in the Pirin.
-
After a hearty traditional feast at a local mehana (tavern) on our final night, it’s unfortunately time to say goodbye. Following a week filled with progression, laughs, and unforgettable memories, one of our team will organise your transfer back to Sofia Airport—sending you home tired, smiling, and already dreaming of your next adventure.
